What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is a natural and holistic approach to health, based on the scientific principle that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. At Glengala Health, your trusted Chiropractor, we focus on the crucial relationship between structure—primarily the spine, skull, and pelvis—and function, as controlled by the nervous system. By restoring alignment and balance, chiropractic care helps get you back into optimal health, alleviate pain, and improve your overall well-being.

Our chiropractors use specialised techniques, including chiropractic adjustments, to address dysfunctions in the musculoskeletal system. These adjustments help relieve pain, restore movement, and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Whether you are dealing with chronic discomfort, a recent injury, or simply want to maintain optimal health, our family chiropractor and sports chiropractor are here to help.

When Should I see a Chiropractor?

If you’re experiencing pain, stiffness, or mobility issues, visiting a chiropractor can help restore your quality of life. Many people seek chiropractic care for both relief from acute conditions and long-term health maintenance.

Every person is unique, and so is their treatment plan when they see us. Our experienced chiropractors assess your medical history, lifestyle, and current health status to provide a customised care plan. We offer a variety of evidence-based techniques, including:

  • Manual Adjustments – Hands-on spinal and joint manipulations to restore alignment and improve function.

  • Low-Force Adjustments – Gentle, precise techniques ideal for those who prefer a softer approach.

  • Diversified Technique – A widely used chiropractic method that applies high-velocity, low-amplitude adjustments.

  • Thompson Technique – A specialised technique using a drop table to enhance spinal correction.

  • Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) – A holistic approach that addresses spinal, cranial, and organ function.

  • Dry Needling – A highly effective therapy for muscle tension and trigger point relief.

Chiropractic FAQ

What to expect when visiting our clinic?

First Visit

On arrival at the clinic you will be greeted by a friendly smile from our reception staff. Our staff will take down some simple details and confirm what assessment and treatment you may be receiving in your session.
Once ready for your first session, your Chiropractor will discuss your health issues with you and learn why you have sought chiropractic treatment. They may ask questions about your medical history and/or lifestyle choices to determine the most suitable treatment for you.

Your Chiropractor will then perform a complete chiropractic examination testing reflexes and flexibility. This examination may also include postural analysis, orthopedic testing, neurological testing, joint and muscle palpation with your consent. If required, you may be sent for x-rays to help determine the most effective treatment for you before going ahead with an adjustment. Depending on your examination results, the next step would be your first chiropractic adjustment.

Your Chiropractor will always ensure that you feel comfortable and confident with their decisions. They happy to answer any of your questions and will fully explain any treatment you are to receive beforehand.
An initial consultation should take approximately 30 minutes.

The second time you visit our clinic we would have received a written report explaining the findings of any tests or x-rays you may have been sent for. Your Chiropractor will clearly explain the results and answer any questions you may have about the findings.

A re-examination will then take place to test how you are progressing. Your Chiropractor will then discuss what the most suitable ongoing treatment should be, including any required ongoing chiropractic treatment and any activities you can do

We recommend that you complete your treatment plan discussed with your Chiropractor to achieve your optimal health.

Patients sometimes make the mistake of receiving their treatment once and then fail to follow up with their Chiropractor for recommended treatments. This can significantly limit the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment as patients usually still feel pain after their initial adjustment, with noticeable improvement often coming with extended treatment.

Chirohealth does not believe that shortcuts are in the best interests of our clients and our focus is not on just resolving your health and fitness issues today, but educating, treating and preparing you for tomorrow and beyond. We regularly review your case and monitor your progress against your goals. As we reach your desired outcomes, you decide when to cease care at which time we close your file until you need us again. Many people opt for a maintenance plan of regular check-ups for continued good health and for prevention of a recurrence of symptoms. It’s all up to you!

Phases of Chiropractic Care

Phase 1: Relief Care

The goal of the first phase is to alleviate pain and reduce symptoms. A patient may require Relief Care from an acute injury, a chronic long-term injury or long-term neglect of the body. Depending on the severity of your problem, a number of visits per week may be necessary until relief is achieved.

Unfortunately, pain isn’t always an indicator of health and usually only appear after a condition has advanced. So after phase one when relief is achieved and pain subsides, underlying conditions still remain and further treatment is necessary.

To avoid symptoms from reoccurring, phase two aims to correct and restore. This phase requires less adjustment than phase one, performing exercises and stretches to help speed up the healing process, depending on your circumstances.

During this stage your symptoms may mildly flare-up occasionally. This is an indication that your body has not fully healed yet and that the underlying problem is healing slowly.

Prevention is the key in phase three. Once phase one and phase two are complete, your body is considered healed, but to ensure that your body stays this way, routine chiropractic care is required.
Routine chiropractic care helps to ensure you avoid future problems, long term damages and many of the back conditions people suffer from to ensure the life of your joints.

The Chiropractor will give you a schedule of recommended care but it is always your decision as to how long you wish to benefit from chiropractic care.
