Dietetics is a holistic approach to wellness based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself. A Dietetic system of healing incorporates a range of treatments and natural therapies without using standard drugs or surgery.

Using the healing power of nature and gentle therapeutic techniques, the body, mind and emotions are supported during the healing process. Dietetic principles are based on treating each person as an individual, and treating the whole person, not just the affected part.

Our dietitians are qualified to perform the following treatments:

  • Herbal Medicine (tinctures, tables and herbal teas)
  • Nutritional supplements (powders, tablets, liquid, creams)
  • Dietary advice
  • Iridology
  • Ear candling (great for headaches, sinus problems, tinnitus and snoring)
  • Lifestyle advice
  • Aromatherapy
  • Relaxation Massage using essential oils

When Should I see a Dietitian?

Have you been feeling like something isn’t quite right with your body, and don’t know what is causing it? You might have had tests done and been told that everything is normal, but you feel so low in energy that you know something isn’t right.

She will explain the causes of your symptoms and recommend the most effective and gentle treatment. You will be treated as an individual and any herbs, supplements, dietary or lifestyle changes recommended are tailored specifically for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What training do Naturopaths receive in Australia?

Naturopaths train in medical sciences and the modalities of herbalism, homeopathy, nutrition, and massage. Counselling skills are also included as part of the basic program in some colleges.

How do I know who is a qualified Naturopath?

A good indication will be their membership of a professional body such as the Australian Traditional Medicine Society or the Australian Natural Therapists Association. These bodies investigate and set academic standards and will only accept members from approved colleges and courses.

Is Naturopathy unscientific?

Naturopaths rely on medical science to understand the disease process and develop an approach for treating a patient. As a result of the outcomes achieved, Naturopathy is gaining widespread acceptance by the public, and there are many supporters of Naturopathy in the mainstream medical community.

How is a Naturopath different to my GP?

General Practitioners have more training in the medical sciences and can prescribe drugs and are able to swipe your Medicare card. They will also have a different philosophy and methodology of practice.

Naturopaths are not a replacement for GPs. A naturopath offers an alternative philosophy and methodology to the treatment of illness, and will spend considerable time to understand each patient’s needs. They recommend substances that slowly modify the internal environment of your body, as well as recommending lifestyle and dietary modifications.

What is Iridology?

Iridology is the study of health by examining characteristics of the iris colour and patterns in the eyes. Iridology works on the basis that changes in the eye reflect changes in areas of the body, as the nerve fibres of the eye act as a physical manifestation of tissue changes.

By examining the unique aspects of an eye, including the iris, sclera and pupil, Naturopaths are able to uncover the systemic functioning of the body and distinguish between well-functioning systems and those that need attention.

What is Ear Candling?

Ear candling is a form of therapy where a hollow cone candle made from cotton and wax is inserted into the ear canal with the opposite end of the cancle lit on fire. The smoke acts as a vacuum to draw out ear wax and debris from the ear. It is a safe and non-invasive treatment which can be a very relaxing experience.

Ear Candling is used to help improve the following:

  • Sinus pressure and pain
  • Recurrent ear infections
  • Wax filled ears and compacted wax
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Built up ear pressure
  • Sharpness of hearing
  • Snoring
  • Hay fever
  • General relaxation and well being
